                 Among the numerous services rendered by the Nigerian Embassy in Spain, is the issuing of the new Nigerian ePassport. The Embassy issue out this passport after the applicant has fully completed the procedure of applying for the Ecowas Passport and thereby has meet all requirements. The Nigerian Ecowas Passport is an international passport with the advantage for movement of people and goods within the west African region in order to enhance a general sense of regional integration economically among the west African countries (ecowas states).  

The passport is an electronic passport which is recognised by the ecowas states. Meaning that holder of the epassport is free to pass easily through international borders of west African countries who are members of ecowas and the holder have automatic regional identity as a west African and as a result is entitled to special treatment in the host countries (ecowas states) in areas of right of residence, employment and placement.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NIGERIAN EPASSPORT

There are five types of the passport

  1. Diplomatic Passport (Red Cover)

  2. Official Passport (Blue Cover)

  3. Standard Nigerian Passport (Green Cover)

  4. Pilgrims Passport (Colour varies from year to year)

  5. Seaman’s Book (Certificate of identity) (Maroon Cover)

In the case of applicants residing in Spain or abroad who want there passport issued by the Nigerian Embassy in Spain. The applicant must first apply for the epassport online on www.immigration.gov.ng       ( note: you must keep a printed copy of your application form, payment confirmation receipt and guarantor form which you will generate from the web site after completing payment) and thereafter book an appointment with the Nigerian Embassy in Spain for a scanning date for the epassport using the following Embassy’s email address nigeriaembassypassport@gmail.com . Please make sure in your application letter you indicate you reference number and your application ID, including your name and your surname. Please note that you must have the following ready before you book appointment with the Embassy as you will be required of them on your scanning date at the Embassy.

1. Printed application form (see guides on how to fill the application form for epassport)
2. Printed payment confirmation receipt.
3. Printed guarantor form (see guides on who qualifies for a guarantor and how to fill the guarantor form)
4.  Birth certificate from the National Population Commission in Nigeria (this can be issued to you in the Embassy incase you don’t already have it for a fee of €50)
5. A photocopy of your old Nigerian passport (in case you don’t have the old passport you will have to present a declaration of age by obtaining an affidavit from Nigeria. This document should be authenticated by the Consular and Legal Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja )
6. Two passport photographs of applicant with your name and surname written in block letters behind the passport.
7. One passport photograph of guarantor with his/her surname written in block letters behind it.
8. A photocopy of guarantor´s International passport.
9. A photocopy of guarantor´s residence permit or driver´s licence.

Only a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can legally apply for any of the Nigerian International Passport. The Nigeria epassport is been applied for online through the Nigeria immigration service web site (www.immigration.gov.ng).

Applicants will have to fill the application form online with his/her data as it would appear on the passport and thereafter make payment online through the web site. Then print a copy of the application form, the application payment  confirmation receipt, and the guarantor form. These and other requirements are expected to be presented by the applicant on the day of appointment for scanning at the passport office / Embassy or High commission where his/her epassport will be issued.
