The Nigerian Police Report saga

Since the introduction of the Spanish law that foreigners from most part of the world living in Spain has to submit a valid criminal case report from their Country of origin, before soliciting for  the Spanish Residence Permit. The Nigerian citizens received the hardest hit as it was very difficult to process the said document without being present in person to legalise it at the Spanish Embassy in Nigeria. Many Nigerians far over due for their Residence permit in Spain face the set back of their lives as the Police report saga continue to handicap their dream.

What exactly is this Police Report all about? Does the Nigerian people really needs this as a proof for criminal case in their past life? Does the average Nigerian citizen even have a record with any Nigeria Authority? Which data base of record are the Nigerian Police going to extract this record from?. These are the many funny questions that pop out of the Nigerian minds. The Police Report issue seems to many as an inevitable obstacle which they must surmount  to move ahead in life. One have to wonder if the trouble this inevitable obstacle causes really justify the means.

  In the middle of last year around August, the Nigerian Embassy in Spain took a giant step to wipe the tears out of the eyes of her citizen by importing Police men from Nigeria to come to Spain and conduct a scanning and fingerprinting for the Police Character Popularly known as Police report. Being the first time the exercise was carried out, it brought mixed feelings. The result was unpredictable, slow and even some people still could not find their own. It took the span of one year for the last batch to be delivered to Spain. It’s the typical Nigeria manner some would say, but this services was paid for and not free. And the Authorities in question know beyond reasonable doubt that her people needs this document like life to succeed here in Spain.

  Thanks to the Embassy and the new Ambassador, a new Police report exercise for this year has just be concluded also. The manner it was conducted brings rays of hope of what to expect. The crowd was perfectly controlled using a simple practice of publishing on the notice board the names of only those due to scan and fingerprint on that day, which makes the exercise smooth and transparent.but the exact time the documents would be expected is still very very uncertain. But lets hope the Authority processing these documents will learn from their past mistakes and use them to perfect this one. The earlier they process and deliver, the more remote the errors would be.

All the same, the Nigerian people here in Spain appreciate the good work and warm gesture of the new Ambassador and his workers at the Nigerian Embassy for making this dream possible.
